Sauce and Spoon needed to implement new systems - and struggled.

Restaurant Menu Tablet Pilot: a Capstone

Sauce and Spoon wants to roll out a new menu tablet project. But with a staff with conflicting priorities, scope creep around every corner, and a runaway timeline, will we even make it to closing?

Background

For my Project Management Capstone, I was given a scenario: a restaurant named Sauce and Spoon wants to implement a tablet ordering system at some of their tables, and a woman named Peta is hired to manage the project. I was to follow alongside Peta, creating her documentation and evaluating her actions during all phases of the project life cycle.

My Contributions

We created the project charter and full project plan, going through simulated meetings and communications to get insight and and details.

There was also a simulated execution phase, where I solved problems that arose, executed quality control measures, and managed communication with key stakeholders and vendors.

We then closed the project and completed relevant documentation.

Takeaways

This course gave me the technical knowledge and resources I need to manage all phases of the project life cycle, and also gave me insight to the qualities I’ve been using throughout my career that are essential for project management. I completed the course in half the time with top marks, and am ready to apply my skills and talents to many projects to come.
